How do I sign up for the Shelter Bark Control
Program?
Click on the button below to
access the sign-up form.
Do you have an example of a release form?
We have provided a sample release form in Word format
so you can change it as you would like. Some organizations
place their seal and the city's seal at the top of the
form. There is an area at the bottom of the form
for the staff person to fill out after picking up the loaned
collar to record how the collar performed, did it solve
the problem, or if it failed to meet the owners need this
information would be valuable to us if you would send them
(after collecting several) to PetSafe (Attn: Shelter Program,
10427 Electric Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37932).

Do you have some examples of how other organizations
put this program into place?
How you set up the actual policies and procedures around
this program are completely up to you, however, here are
some guidelines of how other organizations have set up
the program.
Release forms: Although some organizations
require the pet owner fill out the release form, others
do not. Each organization will have to decide what
works best for them.
Deposits: One shelter was having live-traps
disappear until they started requiring a $10 deposit, which,
if a check, was returned to the owner upon return of the
trap. They have instituted the same deposit system
but at $25 for the Bark Control Collars.
Animal Control Officers: There is a program
specifically for Animal Control Officers, the Shelter Program
is very similar but was designed to help shelters deal
with the same type of problems.
Remember, set the program up the way it works best within
your organization, with your staff, and with the pet owners. Be
sure to document the standard operating procedures so the
program can be applied throughout your organization.
Are there other pet behavior problems faced
by shelters that PetSafe products can help with?
Escaping Dogs - If you are faced with
a pet that is climbing over or digging under an existing
fence or wall, the pet owner could consider a wired electronic
containment system where a wire is placed on the fence
or wall, the dog wears a special receiver collar, and if
the dog gets too close to the wire, they receive a warning
beep, and if they continue they receive a static stimulation.
Obedience problems (digging, jumping, healing,
etc.) - The use of an Electronic Remote Trainer
in conjunction with obedience training will result in
a much better behaved pet.
House Soiling - A Pet Door installed
will enable the pet to come and go as they please reducing
the need for someone to let them out. This access
makes life with a pet easier and makes house training easy
to teach.
Where can someone purchase a PetSafe product?
Petco, Petsmart, Pet Supermarket, Pet Supplies Plus, Ace
Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes, Kmart, Wal-Mart, plus many
catalog and on-line retailers (visit our Where
to Buy page for a complete list)
How will shelter staff learn about how a Bark
Control collar works?
When the collars are shipped, there will be a training
cd shipped that will teach all those interested about the
program and the operation of the collars.
How should a collar be cleaned between uses?
Each collar and unit must be cleaned after being loaned
out. Use an acceptable disinfectant cleaner to clean the
collar and the unit. Remember that the unit cannot be submerged,
just wipe it clean. The collar, however, can be removed
from the unit using a wrench and cleaned however you wish.
Be sure to reassemble the collar and unit correctly - be
sure the contact points are tightened adequately.
How do I get replacement batteries and replacement
collars?
Replacement batteries can be purchased at many retail
outlets or you can get them through our website (www.petsafe.net). If
Bark Control Collars are damaged or lost, replacements
can be purchased for a nominal fee by contacting PetSafe
Customer Care Center at 800-732-2677.
